Author Chat With Andy: Guest Author, Aramis Jordan

(Andy Note: This is the last Author chat interview. We’ve had a great run the last year, so look for something new in 2022)

Welcome to another week of Author Chat with me. Today’s author writes hot mermans and if you love M/M romances exploring mer people and their mysterious water kingdom, Aramis’ books are for you! There’s a new book coming next month, so stay tuned to know more about it…

Let’s chat with Aramis!

ACwA Guest: Aramis Jordan

How did the first story you ever wrote influence your career as an author and how do you feel about that story now?

Aramis: I wrote my first story when I was in 2nd grade, it must’ve been a little tale about a couple of cats or foxes going on an adventure in the countryside. Something like that. Not that it was very good, haha.

I don’t think this particular story had a lot of influence, but I guess I was interested in writing from a young age.

Which of your characters is most like you (or someone close to you.)

Aramis: I follow the advice of giving every character a piece of yourself. Still, some characters have bigger pieces than others. I have a lot in common with Fernando from Escaping the Merman. We’re both early risers and business-minded people. Some of the self-discovery he goes through during the book loosely mirrors my own, though our experiences are very different.

What is your favorite trope and why?

Aramis: There are so many! I write a lot of Gay-For-You stories, perhaps because I like the fantasy of turning the straight guy gay (no matter how unrealistic that is). There’s just something about a story where man, who has previously only been attracted to women, suddenly falls for another man because the latter is just that special.

Friends-to-lovers is another one I enjoy, especially when they’ve been best friends since childhood. There’s something sweet about being in love with your best friend, and I like to read about people who are already close. There’s often a lot of love and understanding between the characters, and that just makes my heart sing.

How many half-written stories are on your hard-drive and what do you plan to do with them?

Aramis: I have 3 unfinished projects sitting on my hard-drive, though I’m less than halfway into each. One I started as a teenager, and it’s shelved. The second one is a seed for a possible future story. I’d have to start this one from scratch, but I’m hoping to eventually do that and publish it. Lastly, there’s my magnum opus. When I checked just now, I was shocked to see that I’m over 100 pages into it. I forgot all about that. I don’t work on it actively, and I want to further improve my skills as a writer before tackling it. Hopefully, one day I’ll write and publish it.

What are you working on next?

Aramis: My next book is Stealing the Merman, which will be published on 26 January 2022. The book is currently in the editing and proofreading process.
