ACwA Guest: Lily Morton
- How did the first story you ever wrote influence your career as an author and how do you feel about that story now?
The first story I ever thought up was actually one of the last books I wrote. It’s my paranormal romance, The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings. I’ve had the plot in my head for years. When I started writing, I put off doing that book because I didn’t feel able to write it. Then, when I had the experience, I was always in the middle of a series. I’m so glad that I finally got round to writing it. It’s one of my most successful books and it gave me a lot of confidence to be able to write something different.
- Which of your characters is most like you (or someone close to you.)
I think Jude from Deal Maker. I gave him my love of history and romance novels. He’s also a daydreamer and loyal which is me.
- What is your favorite trope and why?
My favorite trope is best friends to lovers. It’s the relationship that has the highest stakes because if it goes wrong they’ll lose a good friend as well as a lover. I love watching the progression of the romance and the spark that makes them develop feelings for each other.
- How many half-written stories are on your hard-drive and what do you plan to do with them?
So many. When I first started writing, I thought I had to do these huge and incredibly detailed outlines. However, after doing that I got bored and felt like I’d already written the book. I’ve kept those outlines and I might use them at some point.
- What are you working on next?
The next book out is the sequel to The Mysterious and Amazing Blue Billings. That’s going through edits at the moment. After that, I’m writing a second chance romance.
