Author Chat with Andy: Guest Author, Macy Blake

Starting today, I will be hosting different authors every week for a chat. To kick things off, I asked my really dear friend, Macy Blake, to be the first guest. I’ve known Macy for many years, and wished I’d met her years before. She is special. She’s also a kick ass author of paranormal romance. If you’ve not immersed yourself in the “Chosen” Universe, you really should. It’s fun, witty, complex, and romantic. Each year the Chosen Universe expands in new directions, adding to the depth and wonder of what she’s created. Take a few minutes to learn more about her and her books. Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win an eBook of your choice from Macy’s backlist.

ACwA guest: Macy Blake.

  • Origin: How did the first story you ever wrote influence your career as an author and how do you feel about that story now?

I actually have two answers to this question. One is the first story I ever wrote for realsies. That was in middle school and into high school. It was an epic adventure involving a group of friends and I used to write it on notebook paper. I remember being lost for hours, scribbling away and trying to capture all the thoughts and feelings these characters in my head were having. I read it a few years ago, and whew, it was a hot mess! But then again, it was absolutely perfect. It reminded me that my passion is for characters and the journey I get to go on with them.

The second answer is the first story I wrote as an adult. That was fan fiction (Buffy for anyone wondering!). I never knew such a thing existed until…I think it was 2003 or so? I’d never shared my writing with anyone else before, so starting with fandom was such a good start for me. I wouldn’t have been brave enough to *gasp* write something of my own and try to get it published. I wasn’t good enough for that… or so I thought at the time. I learned a lot during those years, scribbling about Buffy and her friends, and I’m so thankful I started there. It gave me confidence, and let me practice writing without fear of rejection.

  • Which of your characters is most like you (or someone close to you.

That’s a great question, and one I’m not sure I know the answer to. There’s a little bit of me in all of my characters, but I’m probably closest to Simon from the Triad series. He was the first original character I wrote as part of my author journey, and I think he has the most of me in him. I’m also a whole lot like Clover Crofton from the Holly Creek series I released under my other pen name. She’s sassy, bossy, and Southern as can be, just like me.

  • What is your favorite trope and why?

First of all, I looovveeee a good trope, so it’s hard to pick an absolute favorite. But since I’m a huge paranormal lover, I think I have to say pack dynamics. It’s a trope that appears in pretty much everything I’ve ever written, and it’s one of the things I’m most known for. I write huge casts, and my packs are always giant families that I weave together in fun ways.

  • How many half-written stories are on your hard-drive and what do you plan to do with them?

Um…..a lot? Part of my process is writing what I call “story starters.” It’s usually a scene that appears fully formed in my head and I have to write it down fast before I lose it. I have probably…30 or 40 of them? But if you want actual “half-written” then the answer is four… that’s the two books I’m currently writing plus two projects I put on hold when I decided to change directions with my career path. (They’re both contemporary novels, and I’m writing exclusively paranormal for the foreseeable future.). Because of the way I plan my universes and projects, I don’t tend to get half-written projects floating around in the ether. (Thank goodness!)

  • What are you working on next?

My next release is the fourth book in my Hellhound Champions series, Hell Breaks Loose. It’s a big pivot point for my universe and I’m so excited to get it into the hands of my readers. After that, I’m working on With Kid Gloves, the third book in my Magical Mates series. I’d tell you what’s after that but… nah, it’s a secret. You’ll have to wait and see. (Have I mentioned that I’m known for teasing my readers horribly? LOLOL. They say I’m evil. And they’re a little right.)

Shifters are real… and the hottest, most protective wolf of all is claiming him as a mate.

Toby can’t deny that Brooks is everything he ever wanted and never thought he could have–loving, strong, drop-dead gorgeous–or that the two little girls Brooks wants to adopt give Toby a glimpse of the family he’s always dreamed of…
But how the heck is he supposed to believe in this mating magic stuff when life has taught him that the only person he can count on is himself?

As dangers from multiple sources threaten everything he’s come to care about, Toby learns that being part of a pack isn’t just about accepting his fate, it’s about choice: choosing to trust Brooks, choosing to believe in himself, and choosing to fight for the life and love he deserves, even if he has to cross the entire fae realm to do it.

Hell Freezes Over: A HellHound Champions Novella

Hell Freezes Over by Macy Blake

Safe to say Achim’s day wasn’t what he planned. First, his mission for the fire goddess ended up with him—a hellhound who’d never actually been to hell—being sent precisely there. Worse, he found himself stuck in the strange hellscape with Ozias, a guy who’s a) hotter than the fire of both suns in the hell-realm, b) really, really likable, despite his arrogance, and c) oh yeah, the actual prince of hell.

Now, Achim needs to keep them alive until he can figure out how to get home… which isn’t as easy as it sounds, since Ozias’s magic isn’t working and Achim is just a wee bit distracted keeping his hands off the gorgeous-but-cocky prince. Achim will do whatever it takes to complete his mission, but getting involved with Ozias? Ha. Maybe when hell freezes over.

  1. One of my favourite authors, Macy’s Chosen universe has truly helped me escape after 18 months of bad health. For which I am so grateful for. Can’t wait to see the future books.

  2. I got hooked on Macy’s Magical Mates series and then began the Chosen One Universe series which a bit more rugged but completely captivating! One of the things I like most about Macy’s stories is how full they are of characters and storylines – you don’t feel cheated at all with a fluff and nonsense book!

  3. Kimberly Benjamin

Hi! I am new to Macy Blake and have so many of her books on my TBR. I love pack dynamics too! Can’t wait to start reading your books! Thanks Macy and Andy!

  4. Macy is definitely one of my favorite authors. Every time she releases a new book feels like the first time I read. I can never get tired of re-reading all her series and novels.
