Author Chat with Andy: Guest Author, K.C. Wells

Author Chat with Andy - Guest Author, K.C. Wells

Today’s guest is K.C. Wells.  I’ve known K.C. for almost as long as I’ve been an author.  The first time she met me in person she let me know she is a hugger and did I mind. Of course I didn’t, and I’ve always looked forward to seeing her since.  K.C. writes a variety of books from sweet contemporary, to speculative MM fiction. She is not afraid to write the story she sees instead of what is popular. Given the depth of her backlist, you will absolutely find more than a few books to pick up and enjoy.

Let’s chat with K.C.

ACwA Guest: K.C. Wells

  • Origin: How did the first story you ever wrote influence your career as an author and how do you feel about that story now?

Wow. I can’t actually remember the first story I ever wrote. I started writing at an early age.

The first book I ever wrote? When I read it now, I think ‘Wow. I got better.’ An author friend says that every book should be better than the last, and that’s something I strive to achieve. There are parts of that first book that I read now and think, ‘I would do that differently now.’

  • Which of your characters is most like you (or someone close to you.)

LOL ALL of them! There are bits of me in all my characters, but no one who closely resembles me – I think.

  • What is your favorite trope and why?

Ooh, not sure I have one. I love age gap relationships, slow burn, bi-awakening, BDSM… And I love friends-to-lovers.

I love bringing two characters together, and slowly letting them dance around each other.

  • How many half-written stories are on your hard-drive and what do you plan to do with them?

Okay. Not that many. What I DO have is a folder labelled Plot Bunnies, and it keeps growing. When I have an idea for a book, I write the outline, a kind of blurb, just to get the idea straight in my head. I have a lot of those. Now and again, one of them prods me, and I take it out, look at it, and think, ‘Ohhhhhh I need to write this!’

  • What are you working on next?

I have literally just finished the second book in a new series. Before I start book #3, I’m going to write a story for a character who appeared in my Christmas book last year. Ryan is Robin’s twin – Robin was one of the MCs –  and I’m looking forward to this one. I think it’s going to be a lot of fun.

K.C. Wells’s Newest Release

Finn's Fantasy by K.C. Wells

It’s been twenty years since Joel was with a man, and he doesn’t want to screw this up.

Especially with Finn.

A secret desire

By day, Finn builds houses on the coastline of Maine. Afterhours, Finn dreams of the hot older guy who walks his chocolate lab on Goose Rocks Beach. The man of his dreams ticks all his boxes. Salt and pepper hair. Strong jawline. Blue eyes.
His dream man is perfect fantasy material. As for actually speaking to him?
As if. Their paths won’t ever cross, and the guy is probably straight.

A new chapter

Recently divorced Joel is finally living as a gay man, but he’s not sure he’s ready to jump into a relationship. That doesn’t stop him from noticing his new contractor’s muscular build, hewn from hard, physical work, or his storm-colored eyes. Or the way he wears his tool belt slung low on his hips. The icing on the cake? There’s more to Finn than good looks. Maybe he’s the perfect guy to share long walks on the beach and warm nights in front of a fire.

But it’s been twenty years since Joel was with a man. While he’s not forgotten how to flirt, he’s nervous about making a move.

Especially with Finn.

  1. I love K.C.’s books and was so lucky to meet her in February 2018 at Coastal Magic in Daytona. I wish I hadn’t been too shy to take a picture with her.
