It’s a bit wild to think I submitted the audio book for Better Be Sure on May 2, 2020 for review and ACX did not approve for sale until July 16, 2020. I get that things are a bit crazy, but 75 days to do what used to take a couple of weeks is a bit much. Think of how much has happened in those two plus months. It feels like a lifetime ago.
Finding the right narrator is crazy hard. Think of it like casting a movie and you have zero experience casting a movie. What makes a good narrator? Beats me. Paraphrasing Justice Potter Stewart when he tried to define “hard-core pornography. ” I shall not today attempt to define what makes a good voice actor, and perhaps I could never succeed in intelligibly doing so, but I know it when I hear one. I also asked some super audio book listeners to let me know who they’d want to hear narrate this series. Interestingly, they all agreed on one person:
Nick J. Russo.
Now, it would have truly sucked if I had the right actor for the job, but he said no, or couldn’t take the job. Thankfully, as you can see, that wasn’t the case and Nick did an amazing job with the story.

Don’t believe me? Go get a copy and have a listen. And since I’m stealing lines from people, let’s end with My Cousin Vinny.
If the listener wants to voir dire the audio book, I’m certain they’ll be more than satisfied with the voice actor’s qualifications.
Happy Listening!
